Nature Walk at Gardiners Park
The title says it all.
We went on a hike through a wooded path at Gardiners Park. The path ends at a bay beach facing the Fire Island Lighthouse. The day was warm and sunny and there was a slight breeze. It was a lot of fun. The children really enjoyed themselves. They spotted a few fish, a snapping turtle and many buggy creatures. There were three of us homeschooling moms and between us had 15 kids. Not the full crowd.
It was so pleasant. We moms just sat in our chairs while the children explored the small beach. They had buckets and bug jars and butterfly nets so everyone was happily occupied and playing nicely for about a hour. The older boys had rock skipping contest and Aaron Coughlin managed an absolutely amazing 10 skips.
On the hike back the toddlers got tired so Chris and I carried chairs and coolers and we piled three little ones on top of buckets and blankets in the wagon and Theresa hauled them back along the rocky trail. We let the children play in the playground for a while and then we went home, tired but happy.
